Girgaon: People in Girgaon usually burst out from every gully, corner of this neighborhood. To see few or no people, that too keeping 6 ft distance and eerie silence, was a first for us. Scary for some, shocking for many, now the Girgaonkars want the lockdown to get over.
Most places as you can guage from the layout, are cheek by jowl. Many living in cramped rooms, staying put 24×7, can give rise to new frictions and dynamics within the families and for society as a whole.

Stay Home: message the authorities wrote at the main junction of Girgaon. Bold, but little followed.
We are being bombarded with the message, stay home, stay safe, through television, radio, newspapers, cellphones, but it is NOT something, people are used to.
Are they taking it lightly? Have reconciled to the dark truth, the virus will remain? Are they unconcerned or have they given up?

This is Suhas Rele, who since 1965 has been selling newspapers. He used to have 3 milk booths, but sold that business and now does charity.
He only sells limited quantity of newspapers and usually by afternoon his quota is sold out.
